Dr. Cynthia Mendez
PT, DPT, OCS
Owner & Physical Therapist
After graduating high school from my hometown of Del Rio, Tx, I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in health promotion and fitness. I completed the Physical Therapy program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2006. After receiving the Texas state licensure in physical therapy, I joined Pyramid Plaza Physical Therapy in July 2006 and quickly became the primary PT and later Clinical Director. After two years of seeing the benefits of Pilates and physical therapy in action I received my certification as a Pilates’ instructor in 2008 from Body Arts and Science International. I was later awarded a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2015 and am a certified specialist in orthopedics since 2011.
Drastically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Pyramid Plaza PT was on the verge of closing. I realized I had been an integral part of the clinic for the past 14 years and felt compelled to preserve its legacy and stellar reputation for quality patient care. Having built strong relationships with patients and clients, and recognizing the impact I could continue to make, I purchased the company in 2021, leading to the creation of Pyramid PT & Pilates.
I had the privilege of working closely with my boss and mentor, the owner of the practice I later purchased, which gave me full access to the behind-the-scenes operations of running a physical therapy practice but who also shared her 25 + years of clinical experience with me. In addition, I gained leadership experience as the CEO and founder of a small non-profit organization that I built from the ground up over the course of five years.
During my time as an employee, I developed strong relationships with my patients and built a network of valuable connections. With this experience, I gained the confidence to manage and support my patients on my own.
Specialization:
I lead by example, driven by my passion for promoting and living a healthy, active lifestyle. Helping others build strength, relieve pain, and enhance their quality of life is at the heart of what I do. I take great pride in supporting patients as they return to the activities they love. My ability to earn my patients’ trust stems from being an attentive listener, always offering an open, unbiased ear. I’m also their biggest cheerleader, celebrating every win—whether it’s achieving a functional goal, reducing pain, or overcoming a fear.
