Fall Prevention in San Antonio

One-on-one physical therapy in San Antonio that lowers fall risk through targeted hip, ankle and trunk strength, reaction training, and confidence in the situations where you feel unsteady.

Not falling. And not spending your day afraid of it.

Fall prevention at Pyramid Physical Therapy & Pilates starts with the moments you have already begun avoiding. The step down off a curb. The shower. Getting out of a low chair without something to push against. We find where your footing actually goes, then build the strength and the reactions that keep you upright when it goes there.

The fear is its own problem. When you stop reaching, stop turning quickly, stop going out, you get weaker, and weaker is exactly what raises the risk. Your licensed physical therapist works with you one-on-one to break that loop: graded strength on the reformer and tower first, then standing and stepping work on the open floor until steadiness stops being something you have to think about.

For anyone who has started planning their day around not falling.

You do not have to have fallen yet. A near miss on the stairs, a hand kept on the wall down the hallway, a stumble you cannot explain: those all count, and they are the best possible time to start.

Finding Where You Are At Risk

Your therapist tests the things that actually predict a fall: how quickly you stand and turn, how long you can hold a single leg, how much force your hips and ankles still produce. Then we walk through your week and find where those findings meet real life.

Strength Where It Catches You

A fall is caught by the hips, the ankles and the trunk. Reformer and tower springs let us load those muscles while you are lying down, at a resistance your joints agree to, well before we ask them to do the same job standing on one leg.

Practising the Save

Then we make you unsteady on purpose, safely. Cone lanes, balance discs, reaching past your base, turning your head while you walk. We also practise getting down to the floor and back up, because knowing you can changes how freely you move all day.

Fewer falls, and a life you stop planning around them.

The goal is not a good score on a balance test. It is the grocery store, the stairs, and getting up in the night without first working out a route.

Steady on the Surfaces That Worry You

Curbs, wet tile, gravel and grass stop being decisions you have to make before you leave the house.

A Body That Can Catch Itself

Hip and ankle strength that produces the fast corrective step you need to recover from a trip instead of going down with it.

Confidence in Your Own Home

You stop steering by the furniture, stop skipping the back steps, stop turning down invitations because of where the parking is.

A Plan for Getting Back Up

If you do end up on the floor, you have rehearsed the way back to your feet rather than waiting for someone to find you.

Stop bracing for the next one.
