The clinic she would not let close.

Dr. Cynthia Mendez spent fourteen years inside this San Antonio clinic before she ever owned it. In 2021 she bought it, rather than watch what those years built disappear.

She did not buy a business. She rescued one.

"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."

That is the line Dr. Cynthia Mendez, PT, DPT, OCS keeps on her bio page, and it is the shortest explanation of this clinic you will find. She grew up in Del Rio, Texas, studied Kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin, and finished the physical therapy program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2006.

She joined this clinic in July 2006, back when it was called Pyramid Plaza Physical Therapy, and became its primary physical therapist and then its Clinical Director. She learned the practice from the inside, mentored by an owner who shared more than 25 years of clinical experience with her.

Two years in, she watched what happened when Pilates and physical therapy were used together and went and got certified: a Pilates instructor in 2008 through Body Arts and Science International. Board certification in orthopedics followed in 2011, and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015.

Then 2020 arrived. In her words: "Drastically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Pyramid Plaza PT was on the verge of closing. I realized I had been an integral part of the clinic for the past 14 years and felt compelled to preserve its legacy and stellar reputation for quality patient care."

She bought the practice in 2021. Pyramid Physical Therapy & Pilates is what she built from it. Ask her what she loves about the place and she does not name a technique: "The sense of community and the culture we have cultivated with the patients."

The whole person, not one joint at a time.

"I have many body areas needing therapy and Pyramid is working with me to address all of them. My past therapist would only focus on one area which led me to become weary and overwhelmed."

Mercy M., a patient who has worked with numerous physical therapy clinics since a pedestrian accident in 1990. Treating the whole movement picture instead of one joint in isolation is not a technique we bolted on. It is what the six values below look like once they reach a treatment table.

Integrity

We tell you what we find, including when the honest answer is that physical therapy is not the right tool for it. Nothing on this page is a number we cannot show you the source for.

Gratitude

Patients choose where they rehab, and many of ours were sent here by someone who already had. We do not treat that as background noise. It is the reason this clinic is still open.

Compassion

Dr. Mendez puts it plainly: "My ability to earn my patients' trust stems from being an attentive listener, always offering an open, unbiased ear. I'm also their biggest cheerleader."

Perseverance

Progress in rehab is rarely a straight line, and the weeks where nothing seems to move are the ones that decide the outcome. We stay in it with you through those weeks.

Humility

You know things about your own body that no examination will surface on its own. We ask, then we listen, then we build the plan. The plan changes when what you tell us says it should.

Kindness

In the clinic's own words, we work hard and strive to be a positive force in the lives of others. Small thing to write down. Harder to hold to on a full schedule, which is why it is written down.

The people in your corner.

Dr. Cynthia Mendez, PT, DPT, OCS owns the practice and treats patients in it. Alongside her are three licensed physical therapist assistants and the coordinator who sorts out your insurance and your schedule before you ever walk in.

Where your recovery happens.

One clinic on De Zavala Road, built around how we actually treat: a welcoming environment with state-of-the-art equipment, a spacious Pilates studio, and private treatment rooms.

1:1 With Your Therapist

A 1:1 patient to therapist ratio, the whole session. In our own PTA's words, hands down the best care she has seen in an outpatient clinic.

Hoping it goes away is a plan. It is just not a very good one.

Whether you want to get back on the field or you want to keep living in your own house on your own terms, the first step is the same: someone has to watch how you move and find out why it keeps hurting.
