Her Story

She did not buy a business. She rescued one.

Dr. Cynthia Mendez grew up in Del Rio, Texas. She went to the University of Texas at Austin for a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in health promotion and fitness, then completed the Physical Therapy program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2006.

She joined Pyramid Plaza Physical Therapy in July 2006, right after licensure, and quickly became its primary physical therapist and later its Clinical Director. She learned the practice from the inside for fourteen years, mentored by the owner she would eventually buy it from, who gave her full access to how a physical therapy practice actually runs and shared more than 25 years of clinical experience with her along the way.

Two years in, she watched what happened when Pilates and physical therapy were used together, and got certified as a Pilates instructor in 2008 through Body Arts and Science International. Board certification in orthopedics followed in 2011, and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015.

Then 2020. The pandemic put the clinic on the verge of closing. In her words, she had been an integral part of it for the past 14 years, and she was not willing to let the reputation those years had built disappear. She purchased the practice in 2021. Pyramid Physical Therapy & Pilates is what she built from it.
